Part 1 in Practice: Lessons, Growth and Looking Ahead

As Beck and Orla, two of our amazing Part 1 Architectural Assistants, prepare to head back to university for the next stage of their studies, we’re taking a moment to reflect on their time at 24/Three.

From developing new technical skills and gaining confidence in practice, to learning what it means to work collaboratively within a wider team, their placements have been filled with valuable experiences, challenges and plenty of opportunities to grow. Here, they share some of their highlights, lessons learned and what they’re taking with them as they head into their Part II studies at the University of Nottingham.

“Crikey! As my time at 24/Three comes to a close, I reflect on all the moments that have now become part of my journey towards becoming a qualified architect. The team I have had the pleasure of working alongside immediately comes to mind. What an incredible group of individuals I have had the pleasure of working alongside day-to-day; from learning from their experiences within architecture to the countless laughs, including everyone’s favourite office Shark (he still gets me every time). Although I’m eager to see what the next stage of my architectural journey has in store, I will certainly miss the people who have made the last year of this journey such a breeze. “My time working in practice at 24/Three has been a massive learning curve. University can only prepare you so much - there is so much more to be learned on the job, both in terms of what it means to work as an architectural assistant and in terms of what it means to work as part of a team. I have really enjoyed developing my ArchiCAD skills and modelling house type packs at various work stages. I have also really benefitted from working alongside a variety of people at different levels of experience and expertise. All of them have helped me to develop in lots of different ways. Heading back to the University of Nottingham for Part II, I feel much more confident in my technical design and presentation skills, as well as in my use of a much wider variety of software. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of taking my expertise to the next level!”
