From burnout to belonging: How an office culture saved my career
After seven years of study and nearly a decade in the industry, I was a fully qualified architect, ready to quit. My past experiences left me drained, frustrated, and burnt out. But just as I was preparing to leave for good, I found the 24/Three family, and everything changed.
I knew I needed a fresh start, something to give me a reason to keep going in Architecture. I was ready to quit the industry, convinced I’d reached my limit. I was encouraged to go to one more interview, just one. And that decision changed my life.
From day one, I noticed the difference. My ideas were heard, my contributions valued, and my wellbeing respected. Deadlines were realistic, feedback was constructive, and even the busiest days came with laughter and a shared purpose. For the first time in years, I felt like I belonged.
I started showing up not out of obligation, but with enthusiasm. I could create again, think again, and contribute without doubt. The burnout didn’t disappear overnight, but it began to lift. I rediscovered the creative spark that first led me to architecture. More importantly, I realised that the right culture doesn’t just improve your work, it restores your belief in the work you do.
I went from exhausted, burnt out and invisible, to confident, capable, and connected. This to me, isn’t just a job, it’s proof that the right environment can restore passion, save a career, and help you finally believe in yourself.
